Ciné-concert Liquid Images, Liquid Sounds

Thursday, July 31 • 9 PM • BAC Rooftop

Anthony Sahyoun x Ralph Chbeir x 𝘍𝘪𝘷𝘦 (2003)

Five sequences by Abbas Kiarostami, dedicated to Japanese filmmaker Yasujiro Ozu.

Finding himself in a house in the north of Iran by the Caspian Sea, the director picked up his handheld DV camera and began filming the seemingly anodyne events happening on the 500 metres of beach in front of his house—a piece of wood toyed with by the waves, people walking by the sea, indistinct shapes on a wintry beach or noisy ducks.

Anthony Sahyoun is a Lebanese composer, musician, and programmer. His main field of work is electronic processing of acoustic elements, programming and experimental music. He co-founded the Lebanese experimental ensemble Kinematik in 2015, co-founded Lebanese alternative sextet SANAM in 2021 and he released his sophomore solo record “Proof by Infinite Descent” in 2021.

Ralph Chbeir is a Lebanese bassist, musician, and architect.
Working with improvisation, bass guitar and effect pedals, his music is an exploration of sound fusing ambient soundscapes with gritty, fuzz-driven noise, juxtaposing atmospheric depth with raw, unfiltered energy.

In this live ciné-concert, the duo performs an original score to 𝘍𝘪𝘷𝘦 (2003) by Abbas Kiarostami, bringing together electronic processing, bass guitar, and noise, pushing the boundaries of sound through contrast, tension, and rhythm.

This performance will be followed by a DJ set by Tadeo.
